Cytomel T3 and T4 Detection time

Introduction

Cytomel T3 is a synthetically produced thyroid hormone prescription medication that is used mainly in the treatment of conditions resulting from a low level of Triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine (T4) in the body.

Hypothyroidism can arise due to a number of different reasons and apart from treating issues associated with low thyroid hormone, Cytomel T3 is also used in the prevention and treatment of goiter which is a condition that results in the enlargement of the thyroid gland.

Cytomel use will raise the level of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) in the bloodstream and in truth it may be virtually impossible to limit the level of these hormones in the body after taking a dosage of Cytomel T3.

Possible side effects from this drug includes: irritability, nausea, headaches, nervousness, restlessness, persistent sweating, diarrhea, an intolerance to heat and changes in menstrual cycle. With high doses of Cytomel T3 in the body system, more serious symptoms may be experienced. Some of which include: anxiety, depression, insomnia, and a rapid heart rate.

Recommended Cytomel T3 Dosages

The dosage for Cytomel T3 you will be prescribed will be dependent on the severity of your condition amongst other considerations. Cytomel also known as liothyronine sodium is available in tablet form and drug administration is therefore done orally.

Daily Dosage for a Mild Form of Hypothyroidism

For a mild form of hypothyroidism, the daily recommended dosage should be 25 mcg. This dosage can also be increased daily by 25 mcg for a period of between 1 and 2 weeks. The daily maintenance dosage for mild hypothyroidism should be between 25 and 75 mcg.

Simple Goiter Daily Dosage

In the case of goiter, the recommended daily dosage should be 5 mcg. However, an increase in the dosage per day by 5 mcg should be maintained for a period of between 1 and 2 weeks. In the case of goiter, the daily maintenance dosage can also reach 75 mcg.

Daily Dosage for a Congenital Form of Hypothyroidism

If your hypothyroidism is congenital, then the recommended daily dosage should initially be 5 mcg. However, in 3 or 4 days, your daily dosage should increase by another 5 mcg and this should continue until you have noticed improvements in your condition.

The Detection Time for Cytomel T3

Cytomel T3 is a fast acting medication. From the moment liothyronine sodium is orally administered, the drug starts acting in the body within a few hours. Patients should expect an optimal pharmacologic response within the next 2 to 3 days of using Cytomel T3.

However, clinical response to the medication occurs early as mentioned before, with about 95% of T3 completely absorbed by your body in just under 4 hours while the biological half-life of Cytomel is roughly two and a half days.

When taken by bodybuilders, Cytomel helps to compliment diets and acts by regulating the amount of protein, fats and carbohydrates that the body burns. However, the burning of useful proteins and carbs can lead to muscle mass loss which is good if you are taking Cytomel as part of your cutting workout plan.
